MECHANICAL INTEGRITY INSPECTION

Your asset management program should include the systematic evaluation, recognition,
and mitigation of unsafe conditions.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) under regulation 29 CFR 1910.119 (Process Safety Management), as well as the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) under its Clean Air Act (CAA) regulation, Risk Management Program, Section 112 (r) (1) (Risk Management Program), require a Mechanical Integrity program to be included as a part of a facility’s chemical safety management program. In addition, under the OSHA General Duty Clause (GDC), owners/operators of facilities with regulated hazardous substances are responsible for managing chemicals safely.

The International Institute of Ammonia Refrigeration (IIAR) requires Mechanical Integrity Inspections to be conducted by a qualified inspector(s) every fifth (5th) year at a minimum.

HCG performs a 5-year nonbiased visual ammonia inspection of all process equipment and controls utilizing the latest codes and standards.

The inspection encompasses activities necessary to ensure that equipment/assets are designed, fabricated, installed, operated, and maintained to achieve optimal performance without compromising employee safety or environmental protection.

The Five (5) Year MI Inspection consists of the following inspections:

  1. Pressure Vessels
  2. Refrigeration Equipment
  3. Emergency Systems
  4. General Safety
  5. Piping Systems

HCG performs Inspections following IIAR 6 and RAGAGEP (recognized and generally accepted good engineering practice)
